Transportation in the 1800s
In the 1830s, horse drawn buses were introduced in St. Louis. In 1874 Eads Bridge opened, providing access to Illinois by land. In 1887 streetcars began operating around the city. Railway was constructed and connected St. Louis to the West (Missouri Pacific Railway) the North (Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway) and the East (New York, Chicago, and St. Louis Railway).
